Marin Science Seminar Presents:
"Cancer: Understanding an Evolving Puzzle"
with Maggie Louie Ph.D. of Dominican University

Dr. Maggie Louie has an active research program at Dominican University in San Rafael which is funded by the NIH's National Cancer Institute. Her lab is focused on understanding how hormone-refractory breast cancer develops, specifically looking at 1) the development of tamoxifen resistance and 2) the role of metalloestrogen and other endocrine disruptors in this process. Dr. Louie will also tell us about how she trained to become a research scientist and a professor of biochemistry.

Dr. Louie joined the department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at Dominican University in 2005. She is currently an associate professor and the director of the Master of Science in Biological Sciences program at Dominican. She holds dual Bachelor's degrees in Biochemistry (BA) and Nutritional Science (BS) from UC Berkeley, a Master's degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry from SF State University, and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from UC Davis.
